Abbeywood care home in Ash Vale rated as outstanding by care regulator
Abbeywood care home in Aldershot has been rated outstanding by inspectors from regulator the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Staff at Anchor’s Abbeywood in Wharf Road, Ash Vale were celebrating this week after receiving the accolade.
The care home is the eighth Anchor-run home which is classed as Outstanding, making it the provider with the most outstanding-rated care homes compared to all providers across the country.
Abbeywood was praised by the CQC under their new robust inspection process which now rates care homes as either outstanding, good, requiring improvement or inadequate.
Alongside providing top quality care, the home was commended for its pets’ policy so residents can bring their pet with them when they move into the home, which also has its own cats, called Laurel and Hardy, two rabbits and two turtles.
Abbeywood’s activities were praised, including its You’re Never Too Old campaign where staff try to realise people’s dreams, which included staff taking two residents to Paris and taking other residents ice-skating, moving them across the ice in their wheelchairs.
Care Home Manager Jamila Towfiq-Faerber said everyone at the care home was thrilled with the announcement.
Jamila said: “The residents and their families regularly tell us Abbeywood is a great place for older people to live but to be given such praise from the regulator is outstanding.
“This has been an entire team effort. Everyone’s passion, commitment, and sheer hard graft have been instrumental in the achievements and differences we make to our residents’ lives every day.
“I am extremely proud to be a part of such a fantastic team who have created a homely atmosphere for our residents. Abbeywood is a home where residents want to live and where staff enjoy coming to work so they can develop as people and enhance our residents’ lives daily.
“We welcome such rigorous inspections and clear ratings so older people and their families can see which homes are the best in the country.”
The staff will be organising a party for the residents to celebrate this success.
Frank Roberts, 86, who has lived at Abbeywood for four years, said: “I feel proud the home has received such a wonderful accolade. It is well deserved.
“Anchor’s Abbeywood has a lovely atmosphere and the staff are helpful and kind. They are a friendly and happy bunch who help create a good atmosphere.”
Fellow resident Gladys Grey, 91, added: “I’m happy the home has been given this rating. It makes me feel safe that I live here.
“There is a lovely atmosphere with meaningful activities always going on. I enjoy the trips and activities but also sitting with my friends and relaxing.”
